TLC...For Your Listening Pleasure

It was hard to pick one TLC song to play (I'm particularly fond of Creep myself). But this video, wouldn't you agree that it's pretty amazing? Half the time you don't know what's going on (are they in college, is this a slumber party? Maybe they work at a laundry mat?). As the video progresses, the shots get better and better (and the scrunchies flow like water).  The shot of Left Eye playing the casio keyboard  on the bed, incredible! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but a TLC themed costume party would probably be the best day of our lives (not to be confused with the 90's soap opera, Days Of Our Lives). Don't worry, if you don't have a bleached bowl cut, there is still room for you. Just throw on your favorite oversized multi colored matching short shirt combo, throw on a scrunchy (or 3), and call it a day. Favorite TLC song/video (thoughts highly encouraged below) ?

The Walker Brothers...For Your Listening Pleasure

This song has been played again and again...I can't get enough of it. Do you love it? Is it on repeat in your living room too?

All Dolled Up

There is something about the color red that can create an illusion of copy and paste.  When trying to capture my new value village valued treasure (see the red sweater above sans the "etc" sign),  it almost looked as if my photo was  awkwardly juxtaposed  in front of my door. Blame the bad camera  work, or the blurred background (you can even blame it on the boogie... ok ok), but this photo inspired me to think about the cut out glory of paper dolls. When I was a kid, my older sisters  and I would make vast amounts of paper dolls (boxes full, every shape, size, and style). Inspired by the dolls, and the red, I decided to try my hand at an awkward doll with an awkward red dress, awkwardly juxtaposed in the photo.

Desperately Longing For Summer (Part 2)...

The music and the video don't do the day justice, it was perfect. Laying about in the backyard to the soundtrack of Billy Stewart (80 degrees). Sitting with my sweetheart, books, magazines, drinks, and eats strew about. Sigh. Dear Summer Sun, we miss you here in Oregon. We await your (preferably speedy) return. Love, Emily.

Trash Talk

It's a fact that I saw two crows in a tipped over trash can on my way to work this morning. I imagine the crows were saying things to each other like "this is the best day of my life," or "nothings says good morning like a pile of trash," and of course "thank god I kept my lucky rabbit's foot all these years."

The Bobbettes...For Your Listening Pleasure

Homage To Lucille

Recently, I received a phone call from my new great aunt in law, Lucille.  Lucille was calling to inform me she is in a calligraphy class, where the final project is to frame a calligraphed poem. Throughout Alex and my wedding planning process, Lucille and I would chat love poetry, exchange books, and give suggestions regarding the perfect love poems to be read during the ceremony. Things to note about Lucille: She is extremely intelligent, stunning, fashionable (dressed to the 9's every time), eloquent, a musician, an adventurer, an incredible calligrapher (with a vast knowledge of poetry), among many other things (not to mention she just turned 90, and was one of the last people dancing at her birthday party). I could gush on and on (and on and on. When she offered to write the poem of my choice for her calligraphy class, I was pleased as punch. It took some thought (but not the deep thoughts with Jack Handy kind of thoughts). I decided a poem by William Carlos Williams would be a lovely addition to our lives (see below #1). In retort to the thoughtful/ generous offer, I decided I'd attempt to write a poem to pay homage to Lucille (see below #2).Do note, I'm no Bill Shakespeare...

This Is Just To Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Lucille

Dearest Lucille with great zeal
I graciously except your  generous deal
just the thought
of your ink pot
your literary expressions
your letters, a lot
no words have looked finer
(no doubt in my mind)
to say with no fear
your work compliments from Dickinson to Shakespeare
